RockBats - hard ROCK maple wood baseball BATS

A closer look at the end grain of White Ash under the microscope shows why it falls into the scientific category of a RING POROUS wood species.

A RING POROUS wood simply means that every year there is a rapid change of wood cell density that occurs from the fast-growing Spring months, to the slow-growing Summer months.

The microscope photo to the right shows the RING POROUS end grain of White Ash.  The brown bands are the high-density Summer wood cells, and the light-colored bands are the POROUS Spring wood cells.   These POROUS wood cells are the ones that fail when White Ash bats experience Annual Ring Separation.
